As the Antholzertal/Valle Anterselva Tourism Association, we are genuinely committed to the preservation of our unique valley. A valley, characterised by its unspoilt natural landscape and authentic hospitality. A valley, in which tradition and culture are still tangibly lived today. In order to ensure the sustainable and future-oriented development of our region for the generations to come, we operate according to the 4 pillars of sustainability. In addition to the realisation of important awareness-raising initiatives aimed at increasing the sensitivity of both guests and inhabitants for the valuable natural heritage of the Antholzertal valley, our activities also focus on the employment and availability of high-quality products and services, which are intended not only to ensure a long-lasting supply of natural resources, but also to enhance tourism as the foundation of the local economy. We work closely with local associations, institutions and businesses that share the same commitment in order to realise our goal.
Being respectful of the surrounding nature and preserving the UNESCO World Natural Heritage of the Dolomites. This is what the project "Respect the mountain" aims at. The initiative - launched by IDM South Tyrol, the Provincial Department for Nature, Landscape and Territorial Development as well as the Provincial Agency for Environment and Climate Protection - addresses equally guests, locals and tourism professionals in South Tyrol, raising their awareness of an environmentally friendly and responsible behaviour in the mountains as well as in everyday life through a number of activities and actions. A major focus is placed on issues related to drinking water and the prevention of waste.
Refilling fresh mountain water - energizing & free of charge! The project called “Refill South Tyrol”, initiated by the South Tyrolean umbrella organisation for nature conservation and environmental protection, intends to increase the awareness of tourism professionals, locals and guests for the consumption of tap water as drinking water and thus for the reduction of disposable plastic bottles. All over South Tyrol, and of course also with us in the Antholzertal valley, there are plenty refill stations where you can fill up your own water bottle with fresh spring water for free.
Tourism and agriculture are two elements that, by selling and consuming local products, contribute in an indispensable interaction to the regional circular economy and to the environmentally friendly development of the Antholzertal valley. A precious interplay fostered by the accommodation facilities and restaurants of our valley, who work in close collaboration with local producers and manufacturers choosing fresh, regional and sustainable products as much as possible.
It is quite easy to embark on environmentally friendly explorations in the Antholz valley: As a tourism association, we provide the guests of our region with a variety of possibilities to explore our holiday destination in an unrestricted and environmentally friendly way. In addition to the HolidayPass guest card, which is applicable to all public transport in South Tyrol, we are also committed in reducing traffic at the Staller Saddle mountain pass. For this purpose, the mountain pass can comfortably be reached with the Lakes shuttle service, without the need of driving a car.
Acting sustainably also involves reducing paper consumption. In this regard, we act on two levels: On one hand, we provide all information through digital information platforms such as the website of our tourism association or Guestnet. This not only allows us to significantly reduce the number of printed information materials, but also to make all information accessible 24/7. On the other hand, those print materials which are effectively required, are only produced from environmentally friendly paper.
We only use the most modern technologies for the snow production on our cross-country ski trails so as to produce the required snow in an environmentally friendly, energy-saving and efficient way. In this process, solely the exact and effectively needed amount of snow is generated and only when the temperatures offer the ideal conditions for it. The water which is used for the snowmaking on the cross-country ski slopes is used twice throughout this process: First, the electric power plant of our valley produces the electricity needed for the production of snow. Subsequently, the same water that was used to generate electricity is employed for the generation of snow on the trails.
In addition, the entire Kronplatz/Plan de Corones ski area contributes to the protection of the environment with a series of responsible actions.
When talking about sustainability and green mobility, as a holiday destination it is nowadays essential to provide charging stations for e-vehicles. In order to be able to discover the Antholzertal valley by e-car and/or e-bike without any worries, we provide charging stations throughout the entire valley. In this way, electricity can be easily recharged at any time along your tour.
Residents and businesses treasure the unique nature of our region and are committed to avoiding unnecessary waste (among others, by renouncing to single-use packaging) and to recycling the existing waste as best as possible. In this way, it is possible to maintain a clean natural environment for the future.
Events affect our environment on several levels. We therefore strive to organise events such as the certified Green Event of the 11 Summit Tour or the large-scale Biathlon event as environmentally friendly as possible. In addition to the early consideration of significant environmental issues, also the selection of the ideal venue (to ensure both the most efficient use of the available resources and the accessibility of the event location by public transport), the utilisation of recyclable materials, the consumption of regional products as well as a strict waste management are major contributing factors. We also attach great importance to our social responsibility in order to facilitate the participation of various target groups, considering their different needs.
The protection of our ecosystem and the resulting awareness-raising initiatives aiming at a respectful interaction with nature are our high-priority goals. We not only strive to preserve the rich biodiversity of the Antholzertal valley, but we also want to foster it. After all, the precious nature reserves of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park and the Rasner Möser biotope are of utmost importance providing a habitat for a great number of animal and plant species. As we want to have as little impact on nature as possible, we are also dedicated to enhancing and preserving already existing hiking trails by tending and widening them or curbing any points of possible danger.
